Fiber-optic diffuser for optogenetics by DifTek Lasers

A fiber-optic diffuser for optogenetics has utility in applications involving larger volumes of brain tissue.

A fiber-optic diffuser for optogenetics from DifTek Lasers (Waterloo, ON, Canada) has utility in applications involving larger volumes of brain tissue where conventional cleaved or shaped fiber tips cannot be used, as strong optical absorption in brain tissue is a limitation for optogenetic experiments involving non-human primates. The diffuser can illuminate centimeter-long regions along an optical fiber ~350 µm in diameter, and its elements are all glass with a plastic coating to allow broad bandwidth with low absorption. The diffuser is connected to a standard multimode, connectorized fiber, and custom sizes and lengths are available via request.
