The Libra-HE+ ultrafast laser amplifier from Coherent (Santa Clara, CA) is a one-box, single-stage amplifier that delivers pulse energy >5 mJ (at a 1 kHz repetition rate) with a choice of <40 or 100 fs pulsewidths. Coupling the amplifier with a tunable optical parametric amplifier (OPA), such as the company's OperA Solo, yields a tunable source for ultrafast studies in photochemistry, solid-state research, and biology. The amplifier's Ti:sapphire gain crystal enables water-only cooling, and offers output beam quality of M2 < 1.3 and energy stability <0.5% rms.
