Provider of innovative light management solutions, Luminit (Torrance, CA), has announced a new line of electronically-variable diffusers (EVD). Used in applications such as bio-photonics research, this product line uses a combination of proprietary liquid crystal material and special drive electronics to let users vary the degree of optical diffusivity from near-Lambertian to highly clear. The diffuser element changes smoothly and rapidly in response to control input and is uniform over its entire optical aperture. Precise adjustment of the diffusion angle is done using the control knob. Two separate slots on the end of the unit provide for the insertion of LSD diffusers or other optical filters.

Electronically-Variable Diffusers
OPTICAL BENCH TOP PRODUCTS

The EVD Series is the world's first continuously variable diffuser instrument for optical bench applications. This revolutionary product uses a combination of proprietary liquid crystal material and special drive electronics to let users vary the degree of optical diffusivity from near-Lambertian to highly clear. The diffuser element changes smoothly and rapidly in response to control input and is uniform over its entire optical aperture. The unit's spectral transmissivity is very uniform across the visible and near-infrared regions.

Applications:
* Light Beam Divergence
* Bio-PhotonicsResearch
* Beam Intensity Adjustment
* Detector Saturation Prevention
* Bio-Physical Research
* Optical Characterization of Materials
* Holography
* Detector Characterization

EVD-M Manually Controlled Version

Precise adjustment of the diffusion angle is done using the control knob. Two separate slots on the end of the unit provide for the insertion of LSD® diffusers or other optical filters. One 2° LSD diffuser is included with each unit to minimize "zero-order" effects from laser beams. A kit of other LSD diffusers specifically for the EVD Series is available for several FWHM angles.

A UL listed, CE and RoHS-compliant universal (100-240VAC) power supply is included to provide stable and reliable operation worldwide. Two different threaded holes (1/4-20 and 8-32) are provided for mounting the unit to posts and optical element adjusters widely used on optical benches. There is a different inner thread on each face of the frame for mounting either a standard 1" male-threaded/ring mounted optic or a C-Mount. Thread-stops protect the unit's optical surface from damage.

The low-voltage electronic control circuitry contained within the unit is both CE and RoHS-compliant.
