SHANGHAI, CHINA - The first international laser and photonics exhibition in China has been deemed a success by organizers and exhibitors alike. “LASER World of Photonics China”, held March 21-23, 2006, was co-located with electronica & ProductronicaChina and SEMICON China and featured 163 companies from 18 countries.
The number of exhibitors and the more than 5000 trade visitors who attended the show exceeded the organizers’ expectations. The exhibiting companies included market leaders such as Coherent, GSI, JDS Uniphase, Melles Griot, nLight, Rofin and Trumpf, In addition, Germany, the UK, and the USA were represented with national pavilions.
According to organizers, Messe München International (MMI), the feedback from trade show participants, including both exhibitors and visitors, was positive and made it clear that LASER World of Photonics China has a strong future as an international business-to-business event for the photonics industry in China. Many participants used the event to make new contacts for medium- and long-term business relationships. For most manufacturers, regardless of whether they are new to the market or already have well-established business contacts in China, it was important to be present, to gain exposure for their products and gather information on the market.
“Rofin just entered the Chinese market; however, we are long-standing exhibitors at LASER World of Photonics (in Munich),” said John Peng, managing director for Rofin-Sinar. “The purpose for our participation in LASER World of Photonics China 2006 is to create awareness for our company’s corporate image, products and technology. All-in-all, we’ve already approached this target.”
Gunther Weinmann, general manager of Trumpf’s Laser Division concurred, noting that the quantity of the trade show visitors was beyond the company’s expectations and that Trumpf plans to participate again next year.
One advantage of this trade show is the fact that it is held simultaneously with electronica & ProductronicaChina and SEMICON China, also organized by MMI. The electronica & ProductronicaChina event is the leading regional trade show for electronics components and assemblies as well as electronics production technology.
“We appreciated the format of co-location of LASER. World of Photonics China with electronica & ProductronicaChina and SEMICON China,” said Jenny Shao, regional sales manager for GSI. “It provided many good business opportunities to laser equipment manufacturers like us. We are satisfied with the result of this debut event in China.”
The next LASER World of Photonics China is scheduled for March 21-23, 2007 at the Shanghai New International Expo Center.
