CORNING, NY - A spokesperson for Corning has confirmed that the company is developing a green laser intended to open up new opportunities in the micro-projector market. Corning CTO Joe Miller discussed Corning’s technology-development program at the company’s annual investor meeting in New York last month, noting that green lasers are among the most promising new business opportunities for Corning and that the company has made “big strides” on a green laser. He told the roomful of investors that green lasers have been in development at the company’s fiberoptic cable facility and that, unlike other emerging technologies that take about eight years to reach commercial availability, the project is “moving faster.” Following the investor meeting, the company declined to provide further details on its green-laser technology or development efforts.
