Littleton, MA--TeraDiode's direct-diode laser technology has caught the attention of the U.S. Department of Defense, who awarded the company with more than $1.1 million in defense-related contracts. The company has another $2.1M in defense-related contracts pending award as well.

The $3.2M in contracts includes three Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Awards. The SBIR program is a highly competitive program that encourages domestic small businesses to engage in Federal Research and Development. TeraDiode received Phase I contracts from three different defense agencies, and the company expects to be awarded Phase II contracts next year.

TeraDiode's direct-diode lasers are based on the company's patented wavelength beam combining (WBC) technology, which makes ultra-high brightness direct-diode lasers possible for the first time. Pioneered by company co-founders Dr. Bien Chann and Dr. Robin Huang at MIT Lincoln Laboratory, the company holds the exclusive license for this technology from MIT and is building its own base of innovative intellectual property.
