Newton, NJ, and Mississauga, ON, Canada--Thorlabs recently acquired Lumen Dynamics' Burleigh product line assets, which includes manipulation and motion control equipment for applications within the life science market. With patch-clamp systems, piezoelectric micromanipulators, and high-stability microscope mounting solutions, the product line has enabled research in cellular manipulation, electrophysiology, and in vitro fertilization.

Adding the Burleigh product line to Thorlabs' imaging systems and components line will help the company meet the demands of the rapidly expanding electrophysiology field, says Alex Cable, president and founder of Thorlabs.

Thorlabs will showcase its life sciences portfolio, including the new Burleigh additions, at the upcoming Neuroscience trade show, to be held November 12–16, 2011, in Washington, DC (Booth 824).
