Rochester, NY--Xi-Cheng Zhang, Ph.D., director of the University of Rochester's Institute of Optics, was recently named the 2012 recipient of the William F. Meggers Award by the Optical Society of America (OSA) for his contributions to coherent generation and detection of ultra-broadband terahertz waves for far-infrared spectroscopy.
The William F. Meggers Award, endowed by the family of physicist William Meggers, several individuals, and a number of optical manufacturers, honors Meggers for his notable contributions to spectroscopy and metrology. The award consists of a silver medal, certificate, and a $3,000 honorarium, according to Zhang's official award letter.
Zhang will receive his award at this year's Frontiers in Optics (FiO), OSA's annual meeting, to be held in Rochester in October.
