Researchers in Singapore are now battling plant dehydration via sensing. They’ve developed chromatic sensors that can detect drought stress in living plants via changes in physiological pH levels, and it can do so up to 48 hours sooner than with conventional methods.

SPIE has announced the 2025 group of new Society Fellows. The 47 inductees—representing academia, industry, and government—were chosen based on their technical achievements, as well as contributions they’ve made to the greater photonics community.

In business news, Lockheed Martin is now working with Alva Industries to develop new aviation and defense technologies. And Viavi Solutions is set to acquire Inertial Labs in a multi-million-dollar agreement.
