Munich, Germany - Rofin-Baasel has introduced its StarFemto industrial femtosecond laser, which is based on the company's hybrid master oscillator power amplifier (MOPA) design, and offers 700–800fs pulses at an average power of 20W and repetition rates up to 2MHz.
The laser features the company's Burst Mode technology, which helps to achieve higher ablation rates and surface quality. Instead of single pulses, the laser creates bursts of several femtosecond pulses with programmable energy and shape, which can modify how the beam energy is absorbed in the material. Burst Mode also enables fast cutting of brittle materials with SmartCleave FI technology.
Machined out of a single block of aluminum, the 670 × 360 × 212mm3 laser head features hermetically sealed compartments for the sensitive components.
As an industrial tool, the laser fulfills industrial standards and offers interfaces for easy system integration, control, and maintenance. Pump diodes or modules can easily be changed onsite within a few hours. Several integration packages are available for cutting, drilling, ablating, and marking and engraving applications.
