Cirexx installs second laser drilling system

Sept. 29, 2015
Cirexx has installed a second Excellon laser drilling system, which will drill holes, rout boards, and micromachine fine features.

Santa Clara, CA - Cirexx International has acquired and installed a second Excellon laser drilling system, which will drill holes, rout boards, and micromachine fine features. The Cobra-II hybrid laser is equipped with a variable-power (5–15W), high-pulse-energy laser that is fully upgradable to CO2 (infrared).

The new system will enable the company to reduce typical laser time by 70–80%, which will help with several advanced printed wiring board (PWB) designs the company has taken on that require a good amount of laser work, according to Cirexx president and CEO Philipp Menges.

The company's original Cobra laser, which would run 24/7 for some months, has performed micro-via drilling, die cavity ablating, and flex circuit profiling in RF/microwave printed circuit boards (PCBs) and flex and rigid-flex circuit boards.
