Alcoa is planning a $60 million additive manufacturing center expansion in Pittsburgh, PA.

Alcoa plans to accelerate the development of advanced 3D-printing materials and processes with the expansion of its metals research center near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, US. The $60m expansion at the Alcoa Technical Center will create an additive manufacturing center that will focus on feedstock materials, processes, product design, and qualification.

Lightweight metals engineering and manufacturing specialist Alcoa is planning a $60 million facility expansion in Pittsburgh, PA, which will include an additive manufacturing center focused on feedstock materials, processes, product design, and qualification.

Materials to be produced at the expanded facility include aluminum, titanium, and nickel powders for complex 3D-printed parts, which will have use in the aerospace, automotive, medical, and building and construction industries.

The expansion is scheduled to wrap during the first quarter of 2016.
