Laser welding machine for coil end welding on thin strip available
Bedford, OH - Guild International, which offers a complete line of coil end welders for many applications, has introduced its LHMA laser welder that utilizes a fiber laser to deliver the necessary energy for welding via a fiber-optic cable connected to a focusing head. The focusing head concentrates the energy to a very fine spot to achieve weld results never before possible on steel, stainless steel, copper and brass alloys, and aluminum.
The laser welding machine creates complete edge-to-edge welds, without the need for start and stop tabs, on strip as thin as 0.003 in. The company believes this capability has been unavailable until now. Current technology employing gas-tungsten arc welding (GTAW) machines allows for welding strips no thinner than 0.008 in. and requires start and stop tabs.
A camera and large human machine interface (HMI) touchscreen allow the operator to view the strip fit-up before welding. The process of shearing, aligning, and welding the two coil ends is complete in 2 minutes. Weld schedules can be stored for quick retrieval, and the parameters are set with the HMI touchscreen. An interlocked safety enclosure provides the required safety for the operator.
This system is designed for use on either start/stop lines or continuous lines such as: traverse wind, stamping lines, coil buildup, cable line, specialty tube, and thin strip lines.
