Mitsui Seiki USA has introduced its Vertex 55X-H hybrid machining platform that combines additive and subtractive manufacturing processes.

Mitsui Seiki USA (Franklin Lakes, NJ) has introduced its Vertex 55X-H hybrid machining platform that combines additive and subtractive manufacturing processes. The machine couples a CNC vertical machining center with a spindle-adapted laser direct energy deposition (DED)/powder feed nozzle, and offers a choice between a CAT or HSK spindle that offers 15,000–30,000 rpm. The machine's coolant system allows for either dry or wet machining, and its working range is from 550 to 750mm in X-axis; 600 to 800mm in Y-axis; and 400 to 750mm in Z-axis. Applications for the machine include repair of airfoil parts, such as high-pressure turbine and compressor blades, low-pressure blades, blisks/IBRs, and impellers for the aerospace, power generation, and oil and gas industries.
