3D laser printed Inconel parts for aerospace apps

Solid Concepts' Inconel 625 and Inconel 718 parts manufactured with DMLS are producing metal components in aerospace applications.

Austin, TX - Solid Concepts first began offering 3D printed metal components via a process called direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) earlier this year. Now, the company's Inconel 625 and Inconel 718 parts manufactured with DMLS are producing metal components in aerospace applications. DMLS provides Inconel parts that challenge the geometric parameters of traditional manufacturing while obtaining fast production times.

DMLS aerospace applications have proven beneficial due to the heat and corrosion-resistant properties of Inconel 625 and 718 coupled with the ability to design internal and external features simultaneously from the ground up that additive manufacturing (or 3D printing) affords part manufacturing. As with selective laser sintering (SLS), such part consolidation has resulted in lighter parts, a crucial benefit to aerospace.

Solid Concepts provides Inconel products ranging from turbine engine components, exhaust system parts, and fuel system components. Inconel 718 has the added material benefits of high tensile, creep, and rupture strength, but has proven difficult to machine and cast in the past, with material benefits being lost or compromised during traditional manufacturing methods. DMLS aids in maintaining the material properties inherent in Inconel 718, including corrosion resistance.
