Laser engraving allows brewery ale to shine
Barnsley, UK - Cutting Technologies has created an eye-catching range of bar top advertising to promote a Halifax microbrewery's wares in hundreds of pubs throughout Yorkshire and Lancashire. Cutting Technologies worked with Angus Wood from the Stod Fold Brewing Company to create the wooden beer pump clips, precision engraved by laser.
Wood cut down the trees, which had to be removed as they were suffering from Ash dieback. "Ash holds its bark very well and has a good intricate cross-section, which is why we chose it," says Wood. "We cut them to shape at Stod Fold and sent them to Cutting Technologies for laser engraving with our design work."
Cutting Technologies' Jane Robinson said: "We can work with a very wide range of materials but we're really impressed with the finished effect of the wooden clips.
"The wood allowed us to engrave an intricate design, which has created a stunning effect, and the fact that Angus actually chopped down the trees himself has meant it's been a close-knit project between us and Stod Fold.
"The clips are 100% natural and environmentally friendly. They'll stand out from the row of usual plastic clips on a pub bar and it's nice to think we might spot our handicraft when we next have a pint."
Cutting Technologies has worked in wood before, engraving inspirational quotes from alumni, Nobel Prize winners and key figures associated with Manchester University on oak panels used to decorate a new, 24 million pound building.
Project architects Sheppard Robson researched laser companies across the world before discovering Cutting Technologies had the skills they needed.
