TRUMPF hosts laser welding of aluminum event
Farmington, CT - More than 125 people gathered at TRUMPF’s Laser Technology Center in Plymouth, MI, on April 4, 2013, for a technical seminar on laser joining of aluminum.
Attendees learned about autogenous laser joining, the benefits of using filler wire, remote laser welding, and laser joining in the European automotive industry. The event was co-sponsored by Fraunhofer USA and included various presentations relating to the laser joining process, specifically in automotive applications.
"The 2025 federal mandate for increased fuel economy has motivated automotive engineers to research weight-reducing options," said David Havrilla, manager – products and applications at TRUMPF center. "The overwhelming response to our Laser Joining of Aluminum Symposium is proof that the use of aluminum and laser welding will be key in light-weighting efforts. With TRUMPF’s vast experience in aluminum joining, including laser welding of aluminum in our own production, we are well prepared to partner with the automotive industry in achieving their goals."
After the presentations, attendees watched live machine demonstrations featuring the latest TRUMPF laser technology, including cutting of aluminum tubing, marking aluminum plate and remote robotic welding.
Additional demonstrations and applications will be on display for the TRUMPF Inc. Laser Technology Center’s Open House on May 2, 2013, from 5:30 to 9 pm, in Plymouth, MI. The annual event is held in conjunction with the Advanced Laser Applications Workshop (ALAW).
