Krailling, Germany – InnoLas Semiconductor, a maker of wafer laser marking and sorting equipment, has made some additions to staff.

Technical director
InnoLas Semiconductor says that on October 1 Michael Kölbl (former head of customer support) will assume the post of technical director, responsible for technology, development, production, and service.

Kölbl has expertise in laser marker and sorter systems for the semiconductor and LED wafer markets. In 2007 he took over the project leadership for the integration of new InnoLas systems in a newly constructed wafer fab in Singapore, and in 2009 he became managing director of subsidiary InnoLas SEA (South East Asia), where he expanded business opportunities for InnoLas in the South East Asia area. He remains a member of InnoLas SEA's board of directors since his return to Germany in 2011.

Software specialists
Automatic and machine-readable marking of LED wafers — for subsequent reading of the marking while conforming to the SEMI standards — is not a trivial undertaking, says InnoLas Semiconductor. However, it simplifies quality control and tracking of the product. To fulfill the various requirements of different manufacturers, Innolas Semiconductor says that it is continually developing its fully automatic systems. An example is the marking and subsequent reading on either or both sides of a wafer of any size and material and the consequent sorting.

To consolidate this commitment, Innolas Semiconductor has strengthened its software team with the addition of two computer engineering specialists. “With this move, we can offer our customers a wide range of possibilities on a standard system,” notes GM Andreas Behr.
