Ditzingen, Germany – Volkswagen AG has placed an order for a significant quantity of TruLaser Cell 8030 series laser cutting machines, powered by high-power disk lasers from TRUMPF Laser und Systemtechnik GmbH.
The first batch of machines will be divided between Volkswagen's headquarters in Wolfsburg and its sites in Kassel and Spain. This batch forms just part of a bulk order that will see TRUMPF deliver more than 50 machines to Volkswagen during the next two years.
Volkswagen will be using the laser cutting machines in high volume production of hot-formed parts for car bodies. The carmaker chose the TruLaser Cell 8030 based on its very high productivity, and combined it with the energy-saving, fiberguided TruDisk laser, creating an overall package designed to drive down operating costs and minimize the cost per part.
With sales totaling US $1.86 billion and about 8,000 employees, the TRUMPF Group ranks among the leading manufacturing companies worldwide. Its core business is machine tools for flexible sheet metal processing for punching and forming, laser processing, and bending.
