Influential chief executives from major laser and photonics companies came from China, North America, and Europe to participate in the first International Enterprise Summit held in Beijing, China, on April 17 during LIA's Pacific International Conference on Applications of Lasers and Optics (PICALO).

With a focus on the impact of globalization on the laser industry in China and the world, participants shared knowledge, experiences and vision for the future.

"We were excited to finally bring this international community of leaders together to share their perspectives on how to compete and collaborate in a global marketplace," said Peter Baker, LIA's executive director. "This is the only forum of its kind that truly addressed the importance of globalization and the Chinese market in the laser industry."

Attendees gained valuable insight from an influential group of speakers, including industry experts, legal experts, and decision makers on conducting and expanding business in China. The Summit was chaired by laser industry leaders Dr. Bo Gu of GSI Group, Inc., Wilmington, MA, USA, and Mr. Rangda Wu of Chutian Laser Group, Wuhan City, People's Republic of China.

"The reality and potential of the Chinese market brought our industrial leaders together in Beijing. It is very clear from their presentations at the Summit that the laser industry will have to take China into consideration for its future growth" said Dr. Gu. "The globalization forces laser and photonics companies to proactively and strategically position themselves in the emerging markets like China. Because if you don't, you will be missing one of the most important growth opportunities for the decades to come."

"We look forward to the continued global growth of the industry, as well as providing the educational platform to keep it progressing, especially with events of this caliber," said Baker.

The PICALO International Enterprise Summit was presented by LIA, in cooperation with the Laser Processing Committee of China Optical Society and Tsinghua University. For more information about this Summit go to this web site.
