SPI Lasers appoints Christian Schmitz as new CEO

SPI Lasers, a manufacturer of fiber lasers and a part of the Trumpf Group, has appointed Christian Schmitz as the new CEO.

Southampton, UK - SPI Lasers, a designer and manufacturer of fiber lasers and a part of the Trumpf Group, has announced the appointment of Christian Schmitz as the new CEO.

Schmitz, the CTO of Trumpf’s laser division, will take up the new role as CEO of SPI Lasers, assuming full responsibility in guiding SPI forward in the company’s growth and development. His technical knowledge, experience, and ability to gather group resources, especially in the high-power arena, will prove to be a great advantage to SPI. The Trumpf group has been investing in further resources available to the company, including this appointment, to build on the success of SPI Lasers, particularly into research and development,

SPI will be launching new products in both pulsed and medium powered product ranges at the upcoming Laser World of Photonics China exhibition in Shanghai in March 2014. These products include the new R4.3 medium-powered CW/M fiber laser product range as well as the improved range of RM-Z pulsed fiber lasers from 20 to 70 W. With the increased level of investment in R&D from the Trumpf group, SPI is anticipating new product developments in 2015.
