Call for papers: ILAS, UK's biennial laser event

June 5, 2012
Case studies, collaborative research projects, and technical reviews are being sought for next spring's Industrial Laser Applications Symposium (ILAS) in Nottingham.

Nottingham, UK -- The Association of Laser Users (AILU) is now welcoming abstracts for next spring's Industrial Laser Applications Symposium (ILAS), scheduled for March 12-13 2013 in Nottingham, UK.

The event aims to bring together the wider laser materials processing community -- over 200 suppliers of laser-related products and services, in-house users of lasers in manufacturing, and newcomers to laser technology, all with shared interests in the application of lasers in sectors ranging from jewelry to aerospace to microelectronics to automotive. In addition to conference sessions, there will be a tabletop exhibition.

Presentations, which can be case studies, collaborative research projects, or technical reviews, are sought for three categories:

  • Technical: Presentations to inform about recent developments in a process and/or associated laser source or system technology, for use in materials processing applications

  • Introductory: Presentations to introduce key laser processes and technologies to new or potential laser users

  • Business: Presentations on topics that ideally will inform business owners, with the aim of providing the UK laser user and supply industry with a review of opportunities for business improvement. Potential issues to be addressed include: market forecasts, funding, support for R&D, business improvement, government policy on manufacturing, marketing, business models, etc.

A prize of £200 will be awarded for the best student presentation, judged on the basis of quality of presentation and relevance to industrial need.

Abstracts should be less than 200 words, describing the scope of the work being reported, its scientific or industrial relevance, and a summary of important results; a short CV should also be included. Deadline for submissions is Sept. 24 2012, though earlier submissions are welcomed even if only a preliminary title. Full details can be found here.
