Potomac adds SPI fiber laser

April 26, 2012
The firm provider is expanding its contract manufacturing for small hole drilling and laser cutting.

Potomac Photonics has purchased another fiber laser from SPI Laser to beef up its contract manufacturing business. The tool will be integrated into a system used for small hole drilling and high-precision laser cutting.

With the SPI fiber laser, feature sizes as small as 5 μm can be achieved in a wide variety of materials, including metals, ceramics, and silicon wafers, for applications in industries ranging from medical devices and biotech to electronics, alternative energy, automotive, and consumer goods.

"We are very pleased to add this new laser to our expanding list of micro-machining equipment," stated Mike Davis, director of operational excellence at Potomac Photonics. "This SPI laser will provide our customers with a cost-effective way to have their precision parts fabricated," added Potomac Photonics president Mike Adelstein.
