Newport Corp., Santa Clara, CA, has released a new laser beam steering correction system, offering high-precision control and guaranteed critical alignment of complex laser systems.
The New Focus-branded GuideStar II incorporates two independent Picomotor-actuated mirror mounts for manual and active 4-axis control with passive stability. Two miniature CMOS cameras provide position sensing and continuous tracking of laser beam positions and profiles. A control algorithm ensures correct alignment of the laser beam in both the x and y, and near- and far-fields.
The GuideStar II's controller can be connected to both cameras and to a Windows computer, for viewing beam profiles, position, and shape data in real-time; alternatively, the data can be tracked, stored, and analyzed later.
Newport bought the New Focus business from Oclaro in mid-2009.
