Can't get to Mexico for TECMA this year? Catch up with what's happening by way of posts--called tweets--on Twitter. TRUMPF Inc.'s profile, launched this week at https://twitter.com/TRUMPFinc, is believed to be a first for social networking in the metal fabricating industry.
Twitter is a micro-blogging service that prompts its users to answer, in 140 characters or less, the question, What are you doing now? "The idea to Twitter was born as we researched new ways to keep employees who are working in the office on pace with those at a tradeshow," explains Burke Doar, executive vice president, TRUMPF Inc. "It became clear to us that our customers might also be interested in TRUMPF's tweets," Doar adds.
"We are always searching for ways to help us better connect with each other and our customers," he says. "Innovation is a guiding principle at TRUMPF, and we are approaching our involvement in social media with a spirit of adventure. Waiting for someone else to forge ahead in to uncharted territory is not what made TRUMPF an industry leader."
In addition, Doar says that TRUMPF will be atwitter at the upcoming Space Elevator games at Cape Canaveral, Florida, in late April. TRUMPF is one of the event sponsors, and the company's TruDisk technology will be utilized at the competition.
