March 2--Spiricon Inc. and Spiricon GmbH have merged with Ophir Optronics Ltd., a manufacturer of laser power meters and accessories. Spiricon will continue to operate as a distinct entity as a subsidiary of Ophir.

According to Carlos Roundy, Spiricon president, it is anticipated that Spiricon will be the entire "beam profiler" arm of Ophir, and Ophir will be the entire "power meter" arm. Although there might be some overlap in the sales of the two products. Much of the organization of Spiricon will remain as it now is.

Roundy also says he will continue to be president of Spiricon for six months or so and continue to work for Spiricon for another year and a half after that.
