January 13--Lumics GmbH, a manufacturer of laser modules said it has raised about $6.6 million so that it can increase production capacity, develop laser diode technology, and expand sales internationally.

The finance round was led by a consortium of investors, including Falk Strascheg Holding GmbH, eCapital Technologies Fonds II GmbH & Co. KG, MAZ Seed Invest GmbH, and VC Fonds Berlin GmbH. The new shareholders joined first round investor Earlybird who co-invested in this financing round.

Lumics (Berlin, Germany) claimed it is reducing the operating costs associated with the deployment of high-power diode lasers due to a patented manufacturing process for the creation of highly reliable components.

"This round of funding marks a major milestone for Lumics as we experience an impressive success rate in a market poised for a rising growth and demand," said Karl Eberl, chief executive officer of Lumics, in a statement.
