Nashua, NH--A meeting of the Northeast Chapter of the Laser Institute of America (LIA) was held in Nashua, NH on Wednesday 13 January, 2010. Over 75 attendees registered, mostly from New England, but also from as far away as California. New Hampshire Governor John Lynch, who could not attend, sent a letter of support that stated: “On behalf of the citizens of New Hampshire, I would like to welcome you all to the Laser Institute of America’s Northeast Regional Meeting. … The Northeast Regional meeting brings together the brightest minds in the laser industry to exchange the most up-to-date information on laser technology.”

After the social hour and dinner attendees were treated to an entertaining technical presentation by the invited speaker Eitan Zeira, vice president of Printed Products at Konarka, Lowell, MA (www.konarka.com). The title of his talk was, “Laser Applications in Printed Photovoltaic’s." Zeira is responsible for the process development of printed Organic Photovoltaic products. His talk was a down to earth look at the PV industry and the position of Organic Photovoltaics as a means to convert solar energy to electrical power. Zeira employed a perfect mixture of technology, markets, great examples and stories which showed the role that industrial laser materials processing is playing in manufacturing operations at his company

The Northeast Chapter is very active in promoting both the laser industry as well as the Laser Institute of America by encouraging attendance at these regional events and explaining the benefits of LIA individual and corporate membership. Meetings are generally held 3 – 4 times per year. Anyone interesting in hosting a future event should contact Bill Shiner ([email protected]) or Ron Schaeffer ([email protected]).
