Munich, Germany – This year, one of the most important technical developments of the 20th century celebrated its birthday – laser technology. Even though lasers can be found everywhere, we still have more to learn about this technology. To this end, a new permanent exposition about laser technology is now being presented at the Deutsches Museum in Munich.

The exhibit, “Light as a Tool,” shows and explains the laser and its practical applications as a tool. One of the major partners in this exposition is the German non-profit foundation, Berthold Leibinger Stiftung in Ditzingen.

The exposition is located next to other engineering applications on the ground floor of the museum, reportedly the world’s largest. The presentation illustrates that laser technology has now conquered all kinds of application fields that we encounter in everyday life. In addition to the description of the laser and its growth, the exposition gives examples for its practical use. The exhibit is divided into three parts - information, manufacturing, and medicine - each of which shows the fascinating possibilities of the laser.

“Light as a Tool” is a donation of the Berthold Leibinger Stiftung, which since 2000 has encouraged the application of laser technology with an international innovation prize and a research prize. A number of other institutes and companies are also supporting this exposition with exhibits.
