Using 3D printing, CRP Technology has manufactured a functional prototype of Hexadrone's Tundra-M modular drone.

Using 3D printing, CRP Technology (Modena, Italy) has manufactured a functional prototype of Hexadrone's (Saint Just Malmont, France) Tundra-M modular drone for industrial and multi-purpose tasks. The drone has use in extreme weather conditions, thanks to its rugged, waterproof design.

The body of the Tundra-M prototype, as well as the main parts, were created with CRP Technology's polyamide-based, carbon-filled Windform SP and Windform XT2.0 composite materials.

"Selective laser sintering technology along with Windform composite materials allowed us to easily prototype key components of our product, to outcompete the plastic injection molding process in terms of deadlines and cost, and to test our prototype in real-life conditions with almost the same mechanical characteristic," says Alexandre Labesse, CEO of Hexadrone.

On the Windform prototype, Hexadrone performed assembly/disassembly, landing, and flight tests.
