Smart Press Shop installs Schuler laser blanking line

Jan. 24, 2020
The Laser Blanking Line 2.18 is equipped with two cutting heads for processing strip material up to 1880 mm wide.

Porsche’s new, fully connected press shop, Smart Press Shop (Saale, Germany), is currently under construction as part of a joint venture with the Schuler Group (Göppingen, Germany). The facility will employ a state-of-the-art laser blanking line made by the Schuler Group; production is expected to start soon. The Laser Blanking Line 2.18 is equipped with two cutting heads for processing strip material up to 1880 mm wide.

Blanking lines with lasers do not require expensive, heavy blanking dies, so they are suitable for production of new parts or small batch sizes with frequent product changes. High strip speeds of the continuously moving coil material enable a correspondingly high output. It also ensures gentle transport of sensitive materials such as aluminum.

The Laser Blanking Line is the ideal solution for Smart Press Shop, which focuses on the production of aluminum outer skin parts in small batch sizes. It supplies the blanks for a Schuler servo press line with an output of up to 20 strokes per minute, which also runs there. The Smart Press Shop will set new standards in the digitization and networking of metal forming technology and will start operations in 2021.
