New additive manufacturing solution for cost-effective large part production

Feb. 8, 2021
Designed to be flexible and agile, PAMPROD uses a hybrid additive manufacturing solution that combines both power and wire deposition.

A new disruptive additive manufacturing solution for producing large parts up to 5 m and components in a cost-effective manner, called PAMPROD (Procédés Additive Manufacturing – Productivité), has been launched in response to the needs of the aeronautics, energy, and defense sectors for producing large parts.

PAMPROD leverages the power of additive manufacturing by creating a machine that can be easily installed in most production environments. Designed to be flexible and agile, PAMPROD uses a hybrid additive manufacturing solution that combines both power and wire deposition.

To increase a user’s return on investment, PAMPROD can be used with specialty metals, including a wide range of nickel alloys for additive manufacturing that Aperam (Luxembourg), a global player in stainless, electrical, and specialty steel, offers as either a powder or wire. PAMPROD can also be used with titanium and such standard materials as stainless steel and steel.

A proof-of-concept machine has been installed at IREPA Laser (Illkirch, France). Pre-series parts are expected to ship in early 2021, with Prodways (Les Mureaux, France) bringing the PAMPROD solution to market by 2023.

To ensure a robust, repeatable manufacturing process, PAMPROD is equipped with cameras directly linked to monitoring software designed by TPSH (Courcouronnes, France). This allows the user to monitor the deposits in the melt bath in real time. PAMPROD also allows for full thermo-mechanical simulation before a part goes into production, thus ensuring success from the first run. It is this combination of additive manufacturing technology and adaptability that allows PAMPROD to reduce costs and increase lead times.
