Quantel and Big Sky Laser announce merger
Quantel (Les Ulis, France), a manufacturer of solid-state lasers, and Big Sky Laser Technologies (Bozeman, MT), provider of compact, rugged lasers, both flashlamp and diode-pumped, announced that they will merge. Said Alain de Salaberry, president and CEO of Quantel, "With our combined product and technology base, we now have a solid foundation to satisfy a very broad range of customer needs worldwide." Ed Teppo, president and CEO of Big Sky, said, "Our markets and products are largely complementary. Quantel`s worldwide distribution network will be helpful to get Big Sky lasers into expanding markets outside the USA." Quantel had sales of $14 million in 1997; Big Sky Laser had sales of $9 million for that same year.
