VCSELs

Jan. 1, 1999
A line of low-cost vertical-cavity surface-emitting-laser (VCSEL) diodes are available in several packages, including a TO-46, 5-mm LED plastic, and prealigned fiber connector devices. The VCSELs have typical drive currents of 7 mA at 2 to 3 mW and a threshold current of about 2 mA. The output wavelengths range from 840 to 860 nm. The lasers can be modulated at speeds faster than 5 GHz.
