Pump cavities

Jan. 1, 1999
Pump cavities for solid-state lasers combine the durability of ceramic or barium sulfate diffuse reflectors with a simple mechanical design based on the metal housing enclosing the reflector.

Pump cavities for solid-state lasers combine the durability of ceramic or barium sulfate diffuse reflectors with a simple mechanical design based on the metal housing enclosing the reflector. Water for cooling the laser rod and flashlamps runs inside a glass insert that protects the barium powder or directly along the surface of the ceramic. Diffuse reflectors degrade less over time than polished surfaces. Both single- and dual-lamp cavities are available capable of accommodating rod diameters from 3 to 10 mm and lengths to 4 in.
