Nashua, NH, January 8, 2003. The laser market is expected to grow 12% in 2003, reaching total sales of $4.8 billion, according to the latest findings of the annual Laser Focus World marketplace survey (see Optoelectronics Report, Jan. 1, 2003). This is a welcome change from the 24% decline the industry experienced between 2001 and 2002.
Stephen Anderson, editor-in-chief of Laser Focus World, will discuss the market survey findings in detail during the 17th annual Laser and Optoelectronics Marketplace Seminar, to be held January 27 in San Jose, CA, during Photonics West. Anderson's review and forecast of global laser markets will provide an overview of current (2002) and projected (2003) worldwide lasers sales by laser type and application, with an emphasis on nondiode lasers.
Other presentations during the day-long event will include review and forecast of industrial-laser markets, the semiconductor laser market, and the medical-laser market. Keynote speaker Dennis Killinger of the University of South Florida will provide an overview of market and technology-development opportunities in homeland security, while Tom Hausken, an analyst with Strategies Unlimited (Mountain View, CA), will discuss the current chaos in the telecom market and the potential for the future of this business. Tim Day, co-founder and chief technology officer of New Focus (Santa Clara, CA), will discuss what his company is doing to build upon its telecom technologies and provide core photonics solutions for nontelecom markets.
As usual, seminar attendees will have exclusive access to expanded market data and analysis from the annual Laser Focus World review and forecast. For more information, contact a registration coordinator at (603) 891-9267, e-mail mailto:[email protected], or go to www.marketplaceseminar.com .
