Excelitas signs definitive agreement to acquire Qioptiq

Excelitas Technologies has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Qioptiq; terms of the deal are not being disclosed.

Waltham, MA--Optoelectronics solutions provider Excelitas Technologies has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Qioptiq, a privately held company specializing in the design and manufacture of photonic products and solutions for a wide range of markets and applications. The combined companies say they will serve a market opportunity of over $4 billion worldwide and will leverage their broad technology and manufacturing portfolio--supported by approximately 5000 employees--to accelerate OEM customers' innovation and growth.

"Excelitas and Qioptiq are both market leaders in their respective product spaces and our combined portfolio of active and passive optoelectronics products and capabilities will offer the global OEM community a one stop source for high reliability, high performance photonic components and subsystems solutions," said David Nislick, CEO Excelitas Technologies.

Terms of the deal are not being disclosed. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to be completed in the next 60 days.

Excelitas says it is focused on delivering innovative, customized solutions to meet the lighting, detection and other high-performance technology needs of OEM customers. From medical lighting to analytical instrumentation, clinical diagnostics, industrial, safety and security, and aerospace and defense applications, Excelitas Technologies is committed to enabling its customers' success in their end-markets. Qioptiq says it designs and manufactures photonic products and solutions that serve a wide range of markets and applications in the areas of medical and life sciences, industrial manufacturing, defense and aerospace, and research and development. Through a series of acquisitions, Qioptiq has an impressive history and pedigree, and benefits from having integrated the knowledge and experience of Avimo, Gsänger, LINOS, Optem, Pilkington, Point Source, Rodenstock, Spindler & Hoyer and others. Qioptiq has locations throughout Europe, Asia, and the USA, and employs more than 1900 people.
