Avago "first to market" with 10 Gb parallel optic module capable of 120 Gb/s throughput

Avago Technologies says it has released the industry's first 10 Gb parallel optics transmitter and receiver pair that can reach data throughput up to 120 Gb/s. The announcement follows several other product releases made already in 2009.

Avago Technologies says it has released the industry's first 10 Gb parallel optics transmitter and receiver pair that can reach data throughput up to 120 Gb/s. The AFBR-810BxxZ and AFBR-820BxxZ high-density modules feature 12 independent channels each and promise superior signal integrity with support for the new P-POD pin-out standard. They support distances up to 50 m and require only 2.4W power per module.

Avago's AFBR-810BxxZ is a 12-channel transmitter and the AFBR-820BxxZ is a 12-channel receiver. Both offer 10 Gb/s per channel for an aggregate of 120G per link. They are based on a 'SNAP 12-like' pluggable form factor with an upgraded pin-out configuration to deliver superior signal integrity and keyed to prevent mis-plugging with existing parallel optic modules. Pricing begins below $1000 per pair in volume amounts.

Avago has made several other announcements this month as well. Earlier this week, the company announced the availability of one of the brightest 5 mm through-hole (TH) round LED lamps in the world for use in a variety of electronic sign and signal (ESS) applications. Avago's HLMP-ELxx/EGxx series of competitively priced super bright red and amber LEDs feature low forward voltage for energy efficiency while delivering high performance, reliability and a smooth consistent radiation pattern. Typical applications include highway variable message signs, and passenger information signs used in airports, railway and bus stations.

Last week, the company announced, in partnership with the FAULHABER Group, developer of DC motors, "the world's smallest rotary encoder." FAULHABER's PA2-50 low power, high resolution miniature rotary encoder incorporates Avago's AEDR-8400 optical integrated circuit (IC), for use in a wide range of applications requiring miniature motors for high-precision positioning.

And the week before, Avago announced a new competitively priced 1-Watt high power LED emitter for use in solid-state lighting applications. The energy efficient ASMT-Ax00 LED features a low-profile package design, wide 130-degree viewing angle, and the ability to handle high thermal and drive currents. It targets architectural, contour, retail display, decorative and garden lighting applications.
