A 56 Gbit/s PAM4 VCSEL array is designed for 400 Gbit Ethernet short-reach transceivers and active optical cables in datacenters. The eight-element array can be modulated at 56 Gbit/s using four-level pulse amplitude modulation to achieve a combined 400 Gbit/s over short-reach multimode links spanning 10 to 300 m.
