Nashua, NH--Rapid advances in quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) are making them increasingly significant sources in the mid-infrared (mid-IR) region of the spectrum from about 3.5 to 12 microns and beyond. With applications ranging from molecular detection and imaging to defense and security, QCLs are driving rapid growth of many firms including, for instance, Daylight Solutions (Poway, CA) and Pranalytica (Santa Monica, CA).
Recognizing the growing importance of QCL technology and the expanding applications base, the Technology Forum at next year’s Lasers & Photonics Marketplace Seminar will address how quantum cascade laser technology fits in with other mid-IR laser sources. Do quantum cascade lasers compete with or complement alternatives like diode and fiber lasers and optical parametric oscillators?
The Technology Forum--entitled ‘Quantum cascade lasers for mid-IR applications: pro vs. con’ --will be moderated by Dr. Tom Hausken, director of Optoelectronic Components at Strategies Unlimited (Mountain View, CA). Panelists include Dr. Tim Day (Daylight Solutions), Dr. Robert Afzal (Lockheed Martin Laser Systems), Dr. Ken Kaufmann (Hamamatsu), and Dr. Lars Hildebrand (Nanoplus GmbH).
The 2011 Lasers & Photonics Marketplace seminar will be held Monday January 24th in San Francisco in conjunction with Photonics West.
