Hollis, NH, February 18, 2004. JPSA Laser is now offering laser marking services on difficult materials such as glass, crystals, diamonds, sapphire, polymers, metals, and glass. UV excimer laser systems vaporize submicron layers of material to create a non-destructive permanent mark for non-contact marking applications that require minimal thermal damage to surrounding material or little disruption of surface finish.

In making the announcement, Jeffrey P. Sercel, President, said, "We're pleased to be able to offer this new service, which capitalizes on the advantages of UV laser technology. In many cases, excimer laser marking is the only cost effective way to mark a material without thermal side effects."

Sercel says that UV laser light couples well to most reflective materials, resulting in sub-micron resolution marks. The visual image produced by a single laser pulse to an ablation depth of 0.l microns can be easily achieved. Ultraviolet laser light is best for many materials because it ablates thin layers without heating the surrounding materials. Marks are made due to surface texture alteration, photochemical change or material removal. In addition, higher resolution is possible with shorter-wavelength UV light.

JPSA has fully equipped clean rooms, application and production departments for laser materials processing services and also builds excimer laser systems for customers worldwide.

JPSA develops and deploys advanced excimer and UV-DPSS laser micro-machining solutions at 157nm to 355nm wavelengths. JPSA products and services include UV excimer and DPSS laser micro machining systems, UV and VUV laser beam delivery systems, UV laser materials processing development, optical damage testing, and excimer laser refurbishment services. JPSA Laser operates a high-performance UV laser job shop as well as a systems engineering and manufacturing business.
