Sapphire optical domes and windows protect missile guidance systems

Oct. 1, 2022
Sapphire optical domes and 360° windows feature Mohs 9 hardness, and withstand 10,000 psi and 1000°C.

Sapphire optical domes and 360° windows feature Mohs 9 hardness, and withstand 10,000 psi and 1000°C. Providing front surface protection for missile guidance systems and panoramic image masts, they exhibit 99% transmission from UV to IR when antireflection-coated on both sides and up to 85% transmission uncoated. Domes have 20-10 scratch-dig surface finish and windows 40-20.
