Over the course of the six-month grant period, Digital Optics will design and implement a miniature encoder to control segmented mirrors for use with adaptive-optics systems for astronomical telescopes. The company has expanded its clean-room facility to 1300 sq ft--more than double the previous size. The addition includes Class 100 and Class 10 production areas and will be fitted with new fabrication equipment.
