Cymer Inc. (San Diego, CA) announced shar¥increases in its second-quarter earnings, citing strong end-user demand. "We believe that we have essentially satisfied our customers` near-term demand to fill their production lines with lasers," said Robert Akins, Cymer`s president and CEO. Cymer recorded net income of $7.43 million, or $0.48/share, on revenues of $50.13 million, compared with previous-year results of $1.22 million, or $0.13/share, on revenues of $12.02 million for the quarter ended June 30, 1996. "Our continued growth will be a function of the speed at which our customers shi¥steppers and scanners to the chi¥makers as well as our ability to meet their delivery schedules," Akins added. He noted that Cymer shipped 117 laser systems in the second quarter, all for lithography applications, compared with 80 such systems for lithography in the first quarter of 1997, 60 in the fourth quarter of 1996, and 41 in the third quarter of 1996.
