June 2, 2005, Albuquerque, NM--CVI Laser has acquired Optical Components Inc. (OCi; Covina, CA). This is the first acquisition for CVI Laser since partnering with Norwest Equity Partners (NEP; Minneapolis, MN) in May 2003.
CVI Laser, a manufacturer of optical components founded in 1972, serves the semiconductor, biotech, industrial, commercial, aerospace, and research industries. According to NEP, CVI Laser has experienced tremendous growth in the past 24 months. The company operates manufacturing facilities in New Mexico, the British Isles, and South Korea with sales representatives and distributors located worldwide.
OCi had been a family-owned business since its founding in 1971. OCi has been a supplier to customers such as Lockheed Martin Corporation, Raytheon Company, and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. According to CVI, this acquisition allows CVI to integrate key OCi technology and capacity and to pursue opportunities in the defense and aerospace markets.
"This acquisition is an integral component of CVI's plan to expand our capabilities and increase our manufacturing capacity to meet worldwide demand," said Stuart Schoenmann, CEO of CVI. "CVI intends to increase manufacturing capacity and technical expertise through increased capital investment at OCi."
