A plug-and-play development kit for MEMS mirrors allows development of gimbal-less, beam-steering micromirrors that not only tip and tilt on the X- and Y-axes, but also have a third pistoning movement for the Z-axis. The central area of the actuator chip is suspended by four bi-axial, single-crystal silicon linkages, which connect to powerful comb-drive rotators.
