May 8, 2009--Following the merger of the precision optical scanning businesses of Cambridge Technology (Lexington, MA) and General Scanning (formerly the scanning products business unit of GSI Group) in January, the companies officially announced the formation of General Scanning Solutions, a Cambridge Technology business that leverage the world's best optical scanning components into application-specific scanning subsystems and scanning solutions (see "Rapid scanning applications drive mirror design" and "Beyond cell cytometry: Tissue cytometry").

"The unique combination of CTI and GSI scanning groups enables us to provide acutely optimized solutions specific to your requirements whether based on high performance, low cost, high stability, extreme environment, or whatever other scanning problem you may have that needs solving," said Redmond Aylward, president, Cambridge Technology. "Our extensive portfolio of scanning products, along with the strongest scanning engineering and support team in the industry are ready to help bring you the best of both worlds."

A new line of scanning heads are now available, and the company also has a combined catalog of galvos, scanners, servos, controllers, and accessories. A video can also be downloaded from their website.
