Edmund Optics and II-VI collaborate to improve accessibility of IR optics

Feb. 13, 2019
The collaboration makes it easier to purchase optical components for infrared (IR) applications.

Optical components manufacturer Edmund Optics (EO; Barrington, NJ) is collaborating with II-VI Incorporated (Saxonburg, PA) to provide immediate delivery of Zinc Selenide (ZnSe) optical components. The companies say that this collaboration makes it easier than ever before to purchase optical components for infrared applications throughout the design, prototyping, and production project cycles.

TECHSPEC Zinc Selenide (ZnSe) Plano-Convex (PCX) Lenses are designed by EO and manufactured by II-VI out of ZnSe material with < 0,0005/cm bulk absorption at 10.6 microns. They are available uncoated or coated with broadband antireflection coatings for 8-12 micron or 3-12 micron. Their irregularity of < lambda/20 at 10.6 micron and surface roughness of < 50 Angstroms makes them ideal for precision IR applications.

Similarly, the TECHSPECZinc Selenide (ZnSe) Aspheric Lenses are also designed by EO and manufactured out of the same grade ZnSe. While offering the same surface specifications and 8-12 micron AR coating option as the ZnSe PCX Lenses, the TECHSPEC Zinc Selenide (ZnSe) Aspheric Lenses feature diffraction-limited performance for minimum focused spot sizes.

The CO2 Beam Expanders are constructed out of more premier grade ZnSe optical elements for collimating and improving the energy distribution of high power CO2 laser beams at 10.6 micron and feature minimized beam deviation and AR coatings that result in 99.4% transmission and < 0.1% absorbance per surface at 10.6 microns.

The final new II-VI product offered by EO are Lens Stress Analyzers that use cross polarization to identify mechanical stress, thermal stress, and contamination. They are available in either a portable, clip-on design or a benchtop model, ideal for lab settings.
