Barrington, NJ--Edmund Optics (EO), provider of optical components and tools, has been selected to receive an Energy Saver Plant award from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). By participating in the Save Energy Now program, Edmund Optics is reducing its energy use and shrinking its carbon footprint in the near term. EO received its award for achieving significant total energy savings, placing it among the top third of U.S. companies in the program.
EO applied for and received a Save Energy Now energy assessment in 2006, working with a team from Lehigh University to evaluate its key industrial process systems and identify cost-saving opportunities. By implementing the recommended actions, EO was able to achieve a nearly 14% reduction in its annual energy use, including more than 28% reduction in natural gas consumption.
"In these days of rapidly rising energy costs and dwindling supply, EO is proud to be part of the solution rather than adding to the problem," says Stan Oskiera, VP of operations at Edmund Optics. "By participating in the DOE's Save Energy Now program, we join other forward-looking companies such as Dow Chemical, Eastman Kodak, and Weyerhauser in significantly reducing our current energy demands to help preserve the future."
