Newport (Irvine, CA) has acquired MikroPrecision Instruments (Minneapolis, MN), a privately held maker of precision positioning and measuring equipment for the semiconductor, disk-drive, and related high-technology markets. Gary Spiegel, Newport vice president of sales, says the addition of the MikroPrecision line further marks Newport`s "expansion of motion-control and micropositioning capabilities. It fills a product, price, and performance capability that we need to round out our offerings. Their focus adds to our products that target industrial niche markets, such as semiconductors, test, measurement, data storage, and inspection," as well as "supplying motion solutions to the research market."
